Salmon Idaho Has Unique Real EstateSalmon is a small community with a population of about 3,000 in the city limits
and approximately 2,000 in the impact zone. Salmon is the county seat of Lemhi
County, one of the largest counties in Idaho in area-- though the population
hovers around 8,000.
One of the amazing things one must realize when looking at real estate
in this area is that about 92% of Lemhi County is owned by the federal
government either in Forest Service land or land under the direction of
the Bureau of Land Management. Therefore, there is a very limited amount
of land available for private ownership.
The great news, however, is that most parcels share at least one side
with government land which allows access to thousands of acres of land
for riding, hiking, cross-country skiing, hunting, fishing, camping, wild-life
viewing and just plain enjoying. |

Most of the ranches are located east of town along the Lemhi River and permission
must be obtained to access these private lands. Parcels for sale in this area
are generally larger than those along the Salmon River to the north and south
of town.
The little town of Salmon is nestled in the two converging valleys of the Salmon
and Lemhi Rivers. The Salmon River, renowned as the River of No Return, offers
fabulous fishing, rafting and boating. The Salmon-Challis National Forest offers
summer activities like camping, hiking, wild-life viewing, biking, back-packing,
and hunting. Winter sports fans will enjoy cross country skiing and snowmobiling
on groomed trails, downhill skiing at Lost Trail Ski Resort, and ice fishing
at various high country lakes.
